The oceans of the planet affect us more than we realize, and some people even more. I am one of those, and the influence of the sea inspired much of my music. Coming from ancestors who were fishermen, I realized quickly that I got seasick on anything over 12 feet. So I kept my boards under 10 feet. Surfing the Makaha Surf Championships at age 16, I became familiar with Hawaii and soon learned the meaning of aloha. One of my greatest memories is driving Duke Kahanamoku's Lincoln Continental from Makaha to Duke's place in Waikiki in 1961. After an eight year hiatus from surfing, I bought an old long board out of the yellow pages and became stoked all over again! I began making a living playing music in 1976 and have been jamming ever since.
